SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

OF THE

CONNECTICUT TOWN CLERKS

ASSOCIATION

Improving Performance Through Educational Opportunities

Purpose

Your Town Clerks Association is committed to improving the professionalism and performance of its members.  Your Association encourages each member to acquire the skills and knowledge that can make you and our profession the best that we can be.  To this end, the Association is establishing a scholarship program to provide Town Clerks and their Assistants with the financial assistance that may be necessary for them to participate in educational and developmental opportunities.

Scholarship Application

Qualifying Programs

Connecticut Town Clerks School
Continuing Education Program for Connecticut Town Clerks
New England Municipal Clerks Institute  & Academy
IIMC Conferences

Who Can Apply?

The scholarship program is open to all Connecticut Town Clerks, their Assistants and office staff who are members in good standing of the Association.  To qualify for a Continuing Education or IIMC Conference scholarship, IIMC membership is required.  To qualify for a New England Institute Scholarship, membership in the New England Association of City and Town Clerks is also required.

 Are there any other requirements?

In addition to proof of membership in the required organization, scholarship applicants are required to provide proof of need in the form of a letter from the Town Manager or Board of Finance Chairman, stating that the Municipality cannot provide the funding required.

What costs does the scholarship cover"?

In addition to registration and tuition fees, the scholarship may be used toward the cost of lodging and transportation if these costs are not covered by municipal funds.

 How much is the scholarship?

In order to provide assistance to as many applicants as possible, we will be awarding a minimum of $100.  If reserve funds from previous years are available, we will be awarding scholarships of $200 for NEMCI and/or the IIMC conference.  The decision on the extra $100 will be made annually, and based on availability and the number of applications.

Are there any preferences in granting the scholarships?

The Scholarship Committee has established a series of preferences within each type of scholarship based on the goals of first encouraging members to achieve State certification and then to enhance their knowledge base.  A full list of preferences is available upon request.

 Application Procedure

Because qualifying programs will occur over the course of the year, and in order to grant as many scholarships as possible, all scholarships will be awarded at the same time.  Using this procedure will allow the Committee to insure that funds are not reserved unnecessarily for potential use later in the fiscal year.

September 1:  Applications become available for qualifying programs.
October 15:  Deadline for submitting all applications and supporting documentation.
November 1:  Decisions on all applications due from the scholarship Committee.

One month after the awarded event, proof of successful completion must be submitted to the Committee Chairman, who will then notify the Treasurer to reimburse the applicant.
