Dear Clerks,
We are all troubled by the fact that the Governor's proposed budget includes taking $900,000 from the Historic Preservation Grant program to help balance the State budget. This action, without question, will impact all of us significantly.
I want to clarify for you that we had no advance knowledge that this was going to happen. Were that the case, I trust you would know that we would have attempted to weigh in on the matter.
I can assure you that in the future we will do our very best to work with the State Library to protect this money. We will also look to some new initiatives to generate revenue for clerks.
Tonight, the regular session of the Legislature will end at midnight. There will be a special session some time in July. I have asked Joyce Mascena to provide us with a summary report on legislation by this Friday.
