Congratulations to Laura Francis, Durham Town Clerk who has been accepted into the Second Level of the Master Municipal Clerk Academy.

Derek Buckley, Easton Town Clerk has published the results of a survey he took about how the $1.00 preservation income is used in different towns.  He received 51 responses.  You can view his results in the document directory.

Great Job!  Thank you, town clerks, for reporting vote totals to the Associated Press-Hartford Courant Election Center on Nov. 7. Results did not comequickly (or for many of you, easily), but you persevered. My apologies to the few of you who received calls in the wee hours of the morning.As you know, we had races of national interest, and we had to chase down every number. For 96 towns, we were able to verify our system figures on election night by comparing them with head moderators' returns received at the Secretary of the State's office. We did find more small errors than we're accustomed to, and we think one reason might be thatthe lines on our reporting forms were not widely spaced enough to allow you (and our phone clerks) to write clear figures. We'll improve that next time. If you have any other ideas for improving accuracy or ease of reporting, please send a message to Tammy Mitman, the AP's state election coordinator, at tmitman_contractor@ap.org. We appreciate your help, and we'll be sending a nice check to your state association shortly!

The Connecticut State Library, Division of Library Development and NEDCC presents:

Preservation Planning: Balancing What Should Be Done  and What Can Be Done

This full-day workshop focuses on preservation planning. We begin by looking at basic definitions, the nature of specific materials, and

agents of deterioration. Components of a preservation program are also introduced, including: environmental control, disaster preparedness,

security storage & handling, reformatting, binding & repair, and conservation treatment. In addition the importance of collections care,

written policies, and staff & user education is emphasized.

You will learn about:

Ways to monitor your collection's environment

How to prepare for a disaster

How to correctly store and handle collections materials

How to write policies that will be easily implemented

Your instructor, Aimee Primeaux is a Field Service Representative for the Northeast Document Conservation Center in Andover, Massachusetts. As

a member of Field Service, the educational and consulting arm of the Center, Aimée conducts workshops on holdings maintenance and

preservation practices, and provides preservation advice to libraries, museums, historical societies, archives, and private individuals in the

New England region. Previously, Aimée worked at the Massachusetts Historical Society, where she was responsible for cataloging manuscripts

and encoding finding aids, as well as for cataloging newly accessioned and rare books. She has an M.L.S. in Library and Information Science and

an M.A. in American History from Simmons College in Boston and a B.A. from Millsaps College in Mississippi.
